With three dominant victories under the One Championship banner, New Zealand based featherweight Ev Ting (9-2 MMA, 3-0 One) has been rewarded with a number one contenders fight against undefeated Russian Marat Gafurov (10-0 MMA, 1-0 One) at ‘One Championship 28: Warrior’s Quest’ on May 22 in Singapore.
Ting has looked impressive since signing with the promotion back in early 2014. The Malaysia born 25 year-old, who trains out of the Auckland MMA gym, has dismantled all three of his One Championship opponents, with his most recent victory coming against former URCC champion Cary Bullos, who he put away with a standing guillotine choke in the second round.
Ting will need to get past the man who submitted Rob Lisita in just 68 seconds if he wants to claim a spot opposite current featherweight champion Jadamba Narantungalag (10-3 MMA, 2-0 One). A former M-1 champion, Gafurov, 30, extended his undefeated streak to 10 with the rear-naked choke victory.
As recently announced, Lisita will also be making his return on the night against another highly touted Russian in Timofey Nastyukhin.
‘ONE Championship 28: Warrior’s Quest’ will be headlined by a lightweight title fight between defending champion Shinya Aoki and Japanese challenger Koji Ando at Singapore Indoor Stadium in Singapore, and will stream as an online pay-per-view in Australia.
