Aussie lightweight Adrian Pang put in a strong performance against Eduard Folayang at One Championship “Heroes of the World” on Saturday night, but ultimately lost a unanimous decision to the Filipino fighter. The other Australian on the card Sydney’s Martin Nguyen shocked many in attendance as he finished his match by viciously dropping hyped Singaporean youngster Christian Lee.
The event took place at the Cotai Arena in Macau, China.
Folyang proved to be tricky on the feet connecting with heavy spinning attacks, Pang remained unfazed and kept moving forward, while also connecting with heavy punches of his own. The Aussie tried for multiple guillotine attempts on Folyang, but Folyang defended well. While demonstrating his well known iron chin after being knocked down twice, Pang’s experience also kicked in as he fought back and finished with a dominant third round pummeling his Filipino counterpart on the ground. It was unfortunately not enough to get the win, however, but it was an entertaining battle for fans at the Cotai Arena in Macau nonetheless.
Nguyen connected with a heavy left hook after a brutal striking exchange in the first round with the previously undefeated Lee, 18. Following the strike, Nguyen continued to attack with a guillotine choke until Lee laid motionless on the canvas, unconscious, putting a stop at 4:30 of the first round. With the win, Nguyen now takes his record to an impressive 7-1 having won his last three fights stunningly all in the first round with the promotion.
The victory no doubt brings Nguyen one step closer to a rematch with current One featherweight champion Marat Gafurov.
In the main event of the night, former world Brazilian jiu-jitsu champion, and former One flyweight champion Adriano Moraes claimed the One flyweight interim tile over Kyrgyzstan’s Tilek Batyrov, submitting him late in the second round via a rear naked choke putting a halt to the match at 4:49 of round two.
