Brace returns to the Newcastle Panthers Club Saturday night with the second group of matchups in this year’s championship tournament.
The main event will see 2014 featherweight champion Jamie Mullarkey (5-0) look to take his first step towards back-to-back tournament wins as he comes up against Melbourne’s Stefan Rosa (3-0).
Fighting out of the Magnus Martial Arts gym in Erina, NSW, Mullarkey, 20, was crowned 2014 champion at the November finale when he shattered the knee of previously undefeated J.J. Van Aswegen with a devastating leg kick in the opening minute. Like the youngster, Rosa remains undefeated, after three fights on local kickboxing shows. The 26 year-old trains out of the Nemesis gym in Melbourne along side last year’s bantamweight champion, and recently signed One fighter, Jordan Lucas.
In the co-main event, Mullarkey’s training partner, and 16 plus fight veteran, Rick Alchin tangles with local favorite Chad Price in a welterwight title eliminator.
Alchin drops back to the welterweight division after a failed crack in last year’s middleweight tournament, where he was TKO’d by eventual champion Rob Wilkinson at Brace 28. Prior to the loss, Alchin submitted David Butt at Eternal MMA 5. Price will make his Brace debut following back-to-back TKO wins in Canberra based promotion Storm Damage, stopping Mathew Darke and Leo Diaz.
Update: Brace 33 will be available on demand in the coming week at Network Ten’s multi-platform portal, Tenplay.
