Australian grappling is in strong hands if this weekend’s Craig Jones Invitational (CJI) is anything to go by.
Absolute MMA trained Levi Jones-Leary came close to taking out the under 80kgs division and in the over 80kgs division, Sydney Wrestling Academy member Lucas Kanard took out the Submission of CJI and will come home $50,000 richer on top of his $10,000 appearance fee.
The submission came in his opening fight against favourite Vitor Hugo who is a 5x IBJJF World Champion.

Kanard shocked the event and Hugo by locking up a heel-hook submission, only 1:10 into the match.
The Aussie wasn’t able to repeat that performance in the next round and was eliminated by Inacio Santos.
