The rematch a lot of kickboxing fans have been wanting has been confirmed as Australian Nathan “Carnage” Corbett (57-3-1) and Tyrone Spong (72-6-1) are set to clash in the main event of Glory 11.
Glory officials confirmed the fight on Wednesday for their event scheduled to be held at the Sears Centre Arena in Illinois, USA on October 12.
The two first clashed back in 2009 in Jamaica, however the fight was declared a no-contest as Gold Coast based Corbett struck Spong as the fight was being waved off by the referee. Corbett protested post-fight saying that he was unaware the referee was calling the fight and otherwise would have walked away with the KO victory.
The no contest is the only blemish on Corbett’s record in his previous 27 fights. His last loss came to Alex Roberts when Corbett went up to compete at heavyweight back in 2006.
Born in Suriname, Spong moved to the Netherlands at an early age where he made a name for himself as one of the worlds best kickboxers. Spong is currently on an 8 fight win streaks which include victories over the likes of Melvin Manhoef, Peter Aerts and Remy Bonjasky. He now bases himself out of the Blackzilians fight team in South Florida and will no doubt be looking for revenge when he comes up against Corbett.
Spong is scheduled to face Angel DeAnda at World series of Fighting 4 scheduled for this weekend in what will be his second career Mixed Martial Arts bout.
