DBFC 8 took place in the sold out William Magarey Room at the Adelaide Oval in South Australia on Sunday night.
Contested predominantly on the feet, ATT Sydney product Josh Togo made a successful promotional debut in the show’s main event, outpointing local favourite Daniel Currie in a fast-paced, three-round welterweight battle.
In the co-main event, martial arts veteran Antonio Caruso picked up an early submission against Queensland’s Tristan Murphy. The fight hit the canvas early with Murphy scoring a takedown, and that’s where the contest stayed for the remainder of the fight. Both fighters displayed solid BJJ skills but it wasn’t long before Caruso found his way to mount and forced Murphy to roll with heavy shots from top position. Caruso pounced on the opportunity, locking in a rear-naked choke and forcing the tap.
Local fighter Shane Mitchell made a successful drop to welterweight on the night, stopping Canberra’s Paul Franchi via TKO in the third round, in what was an entertaining fight of the night performance from the two welterweights. The end came in the dying seconds of the third frame with Mitchell dropping the visiting fighter with a right hand against the cage before unloading with short shots to the head of Franchi.
Among other results from the night, Alan Hartley picked up a slick triangle choke submission against a resilient Sy Leafa to earn submission of the night while among the amateur results, Sydney’s Farhood Khalatbar scored an impressive one-punch knockout against Nate Klitscher, earning himself the promotion’s KO of the night in the process.
