He was offered a contract with One Fighting Championship following his win over Steve Micallef in November, however top Australian based welterweight Corey Nelson has decided against a move to Asia’s leading MMA promotion, to pursue a career in the UFC.
Speaking with Fight News Australia recently, Nelson revealed that it was a tough decision to make, however the ultimate goal is to fight in the UFC.
A multiple Australian champion, Nelson (17-5-1) makes a strong case to join the UFC’s expanding down under roster. Most recently, the Sydney based fighter knocked out the previously undefeated Sinosic/Perosh trained Micallef in the first round to win the 2014 Brace Welterweight Championship Tournament. With Brace being part of the One FC Network, ‘Major’ was offered the opportunity to join the One FC ranks following the short-lived victory.
Although there’s nothing lined up at this point in time, Nelson hopes to kick off 2015 in March and continue his push for a UFC call-up.
