Megan Anderson didn’t disappoint when she defeated veteran Charmaine Tweet via TKO in the second round of Invicta FC 21 which was televised live on UFC Fight Pass from Kansas City.
The Aussie, who racked up three back-to-back finishes in 2016, has been the hottest prospect in the featherweight division since making her promotional debut in 2015.
Anderson came out of the blocks in typical fashion, finding her range and connecting with several jabs early. Tweet appeared to be on the back foot too before she started connecting, rocking Anderson towards the end of the round before Anderson stole the show with a big takedown.
Into the second round and it was all Anderson. The power and relentless pressure from the Aussie took over, landing a barrage of strikes and then a left head kick that ended up breaking Tweet’s nose before the referee stepped in and called the bout over at the 2:05 mark.
Megan Anderson is the first female Australian to win a world title and was subsequently crowned Invicta FC Interim Featherweight title holder. The Gold Coast native took little time letting her feelings be known.
“Hey Dana White, you tell Holly or Germaine to keep my belt warm because I’m f#?king coming for it,” Anderson said in the post-fight interview.
In the co-main event Raquel Pa’aluhi made short work over former title challenger Pannie Kianzad with a rear-naked choke in the first round.
Fan favourite Andrea Lee made her long awaited return to the Invicta FC cage finishing Jenny Liou with vicious body shots in the first round while Leah Letson was stunning in her promotional debut with a head kick knock out over former UFC fighter Elizabeth Phillips.
