In a battle of two “The Ultimate Fighter” winners, Australian Robert Whittaker will square off against Court Mcgee at the UFC on Fox Sports 1:02 card. UFC officials announced the match-up earlier today for the event scheduled to be held at the Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana on August 28 (August 29 in Australia).
Training out of the PMA Martial Arts Centre in New South Wales, Whittaker (11-2) is coming off a fresh third round TKO victory over Colton Smith last month at UFC 160 where he took his UFC record to 2-0. Prior to that, Whittaker captured the “TUF Smashes” reality show by defeating Brad Scott in the finale at UFC on FX 6 back in December.
His opponent, Court McGee (14-3) trains at The Pit gym in California under the guidance of John Hackleman whom was instrumental for guiding Chuck Liddell throughout his career. A former alcoholic and heroin addict, McGee turned to Mixed Martial Arts to turn his life around and did so full circle by capturing The Ultimate Fighter Season 11 crown. McGee has gone 4-2 in the UFC and is coming off a unanimous decision victory over Josh Neer back at UFC 157.
The event will be headlined by a rematch between Carlos Condit and Martin Kampmann. In a closely contested fight, Condit edged Kampmann via a split-points decision back in April, 2009.
