Moment of Truth went down last night and featured some Mixed Martial Arts bouts on whatwas predominantly a kickboxing card. The event was headlined by a rematch between Steve Moxon and Dzhabar Askerov under K-1 rules.
The event took place at the Springers Leisure Centre in Victoria, Australia on Saturday, 7 June.
Australian Fighting Championships (AFC) lightweight Nick Patterson continued his fine-form going with a third-round TKO stoppage over AFC regular Dean Purdon. The win was Patterson’s first since he upset Bernardo “Trekko” Magalhaes back in February. The Kimekai MMA fighter is next scheduled to take on Kiwi Kieran Joblin at AFC 10 in August.
Local fighter Tommy Murray scored the biggest win of his career as he upset Grego Penaloza to take home a unanimous decision victory. A former Muay-Thai fighter, Murray based himself at Urijah Faber’s Alpha Male gym back in 2012 in an attempt to get his ground-game up to speed with his striking and it seems to have paid off with Murray looking at building his way up in the Australian flyweight ranks. It’s a disappointing loss for Grego Penaloza who has now lost his last five fights after starting his career with wins over the likes of Luke Morris and Jarrett Owen.
Also in an MMA fight on the card, Jason Petropoulos scored a third-round armbar submission over Junior Fabian Fa’atui.
The main event contested under K-1 rules, went the way of Dzhabar Askerov who got his revenge defeating Steve Moxon by a unanimous decision after a five-round battle. Askerov evened the ledger after Steve Moxon won the initial meeting back in 2013.
