Solid performance by Team Australia at IMMAF World Championships

No Australian made it through to the final day of the the Amateur IMMAF world championships, however the team which was competing in IMMAF world championships for the first time, did have some impressive performances.

Queensland based Andrew Stanway will come home with a bronze medal. Stanway won three straight fights against opponents from Poland, France and New Zealand before ultimately going down in the semi-finals to American Dallas Jennings via a second round submission. The American will now face New Zealand fighter Byron Chivers in the final after Chivers scored an upset win against European IMMAF champion Rostem Akman on the other side of the bracket.

Chivers is one of two New Zealand fighters in the final with Brayden Graham set to compete against Irish fighter David Fogerty in the men’s flyweight division.

The finals are set to take place on Sunday in Las Vegas, Nevada as part of the UFC’s fight week festivities.
