Robert Whittaker reportedly out of UFC 248 bout

Former UFC middleweight champ Robert Whittaker has reportedly withdrawn from his UFC 248 bout against Jared Cannonier due to ‘undisclosed personal reasons’.

News of the withdrawal was first reported by ESPN and has seen been verified by multiple sources however has been no official word from Whittaker or the UFC at this stage.

The 29-year-old Australian is coming off a title loss in Melbourne against Israel Adesanya which snapped an impressive nine-fight win streak.

“Robert Whittaker is out his March 7 UFC 248 fight against Jared Cannonier due to undisclosed personal reasons, sources say,” ESPN reporter Ariel Helwani tweeted.

After facing back-to-back losses in the light-heavyweight division, Alaskan born Cannonier dropped to the middleweight division and has now won three on the trot, including victories against Anderson Silva and more recently against Jack Hermansson.

“UFC efforting to keep Cannonier on the card but no opponent locked in yet, I’m told,” Helwani added to his tweet.
