Rob Whittaker to return against Jarred Cannonier at UFC 248 in Las Vegas

Former UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker will begin his second run at the middleweight title against Jared Cannonier.

The fight is set to take place at UFC 248 on March 8th.

Whittaker (20-5 MMA, 11-3 UFC) lost his UFC gold at UFC 243 in Melbourne this past October to New Zealand’s Israel Adesanya.

Jared Cannonier (13-4 MMA, 6-3 UFC) is currently ranked number 4 in the UFC middleweight rankings. Cannonier started his career at heavyweight before making his debut in the middleweight division in November of 2018. He is riding a three-fight winning streak with TKO victories over David Branch, Anderson Silva and Jack Hermansson.

While no main event has been made official for UFC 248, it is understood that a middleweight title fight between Israel Adesanya and Yoel Romero is the likely option.

My earliest combat sports memory is watching David Tua knock people out with his left hook.  I am extremely passionate about combat sports in Australia and my home country of New Zealand and I endeavour to grow the profile of martial arts and its athletes in both countries.
