Robert Whittaker is out of UFC 234 in Melbourne.
Whittaker was set to defend his title for the first time on Australian soil against Kelvin Gastelum in the main event of UFC 234 but was forced to withdraw from the fight due to injury. Whittaker was diagnosed with a hernia and will need to undergo surgery.
The co-main event has now been elevated to main event status with New Zealand’s Israel Adesanya taking on Anderson Silva.
A lightweight contest between Lando Vannata and Marcos Mariano will now serve as the co-main event.
