Michael Tobin will look to get back on track this weekend when the Gold Coast based featherweight makes his ACB return in England. Coming off his first defeat in March, Tobin (12-1) will square off with local fighter Mike Grundy (9-1) at the event, which takes place early Sunday morning Australian time at Sheffield Arena in South Yorkshire, England.
A Judo black belt and BJJ brown belt, Tobin rode a 12-fight win streak into his last fight at ACB 54 with all but one of his victories coming by submission – 10 of them in the first round. The impressive run saw the 24 year-old earn a number of local MMA titles for his troubles.
Tobin’s ride came to a crashing halt in what was also his international debut at the event, running into a red hot Dean Garnett, who dominated the contest en route to a second round KO (video). The Aussie will now be eager to right the ship against Manchester’s Mike Grundy.
Grundy is a Commonwealth Games bronze medal winning wrestler, who since making his pro MMA debut in 2012, has tasted defeat just once, a submission loss to current UFC fighter Damian Stasiak back in 2015 in the Bamma promotion. Since the loss, however, the 30 year-old has rattled off six wins in a row with his most recent victory coming against Japan’s Yutaka Saito in January.
ACB 65 will be headlined by a light heavyweight title fight between former UFC fighter Thiago Silva and Batraz Agnaev. A free live stream of the event will be available here at Fight News Australia.
