A main event heavyweight bout between Kym Robinson (pictured left) and Andrew Machin (pictured right) has been announced by South Australian promotion MMA Showdown for their second event.

Promoted by Maximum Impact Fighting and held in a traditional ring, the event will be held at the St Clair Recreation Centre in Woodville, South Australia on July 26.

A veteran of the local scene since 2003, local boy Kym Robinson will bring a 14-7-1NC record into the fight and will be eager to get a win in front of his home-crowd after losing to Olympian Daniel Kelly in his last outing back in March. Robinson will be stepping up from light-heavyweight to take on Machin.

“I have been fighting MMA pro since 2003 and have fought at Heavyweight only a few times. I think that my mobility and size will play in my favour plus my relative experience over Andrew. I feel that he is a big and very tough guy and because of this I need to be cerebral and respect his attributes in this regard.” Robinson said via the promotions press-release.

“Size does not matter to me and I am happy to fight at heavyweight. I do not concern myself with strength and mass. Though I am aware of these dangers I also feel that a fighter stands before his foe regardless of how small or big he is. I think that it shall be a fun and good fight and one which I gratefully appreciate after my lengthy layoff,” he added.

A Brazilian Jiu Jitsu brown belt, Andrew Machin is the current Storm Damage heavyweight champion after defeating Brandon Sosoli by a decision back in August. The Canberra based fighter will bring a 8-5 record into the fight.

The promotion held their first event back in February 2013 where in the main event Integrated Martial Arts Hervey Bay fighter Greg Atzori submitted crowd favourite Terry Balboa.

Updated: 24 June 2014 @ 21:08 – The promotion has also announced another South Australia vs ACT match-up as kickboxing veteran Myles Simpson looks to score another MMA victory when he comes across Peter Cross from Canberra. The two will clash in the lightweight division.
