Alexander Volkanovski isn’t the only one that believes he can cause a massive upset at UFC 284. Chael Sonnen has given his opinion on his YouTube Channel, stating that he disagrees with the notion that it would be considered “Shocking News” if Volkanovski manages to take out Islam Makhachev.
Looking to improve his legacy, Volkanovski is moving up a weight class to challenge Makhachev for the lightweight championship and to secure his No. 1 spot on the pound-for-pound list.
In a recent video, Sonnen claims that Volkanovski shouldn’t be considered as an underdog given that the Aussie has more experience as a champion and more wins on his record, saying that it wouldn’t be shocking news if Volkanovski pulls the upset.
“No. Of course not. Alexander Volkanovski is No.1-ranked and Islam is No.5-ranked,” Sonnen said.
“You have to turn to the P4P list. That’s the only list both guys are on… Volkanovski who’s never lost, Volkanovski who’s ranked higher… How would that be shocking news? If Volkanovski gets beat… any element of that fight that goes against Volk will be something that’s never happened before,” Sonnen continued.
