Victoria’s newest MMA promotion, Hex Fight Series, debuts this Saturday night at the Springers Leisure Centre in Keysborough, Victoria. As Fight News Australia previewed back in early October, the event will be headlined by a lightweight tilt between local favorite Nick Patterson and American Steve Orosco.
Originally slated to face Phuket Top Team based American JJ Ambrose, followed by Brazilian Robert Amorim, Steve Kennedy has another new opponent in American Ran Weathers. Currently enjoying a five-fight win streak, the Perth native will be looking to remain undefeated in 2014, after scoring a hard fought decision win over Daniel Way and a submission victory over Dominic McConnell. On the other hand, Weathers, a veteran of over 35 MMA appearances, is 0-3 this year, with his last loss coming against Tim Welch on an Intense Championship Fighting event in August.
Also slated for the show, bantamweights Shantaram Maharaj and Charlie Alaniz will square off in what is set to be an interstate battle. Queensland’s Maharaj recently snapped a two-fight losing streak by submitting Chris Morris at Fightworld Cup 18. The win also earned ‘God’s Gift’ the promotion’s bantamweight title. Alaniz will be looking to make it three wins in a row after outpointing Giancarlo Embradora, and most recently defeating Ian Dela Cuesta in Hawaii.
Meanwhile, Former Cage Warriors FC, and Legend FC fighter, Damien Brown, unfortunately will no longer be fighting after the promotion was unable to find a late replacement for undefeated Victorian Kael Coster.
