For the second straight Commonwealth Games, the Australian wrestling team has failed to secure a medal after the competition concluded on Saturday.

Competing in his second Commonwealth Games, Jayden Lawrence had a bad draw coming up against 2010 gold medalist Muhammad Inam from Pakistan. Lawrence wrestled hard but was down 9-4 after the opening period. Inam dominated the second period 5-0 to earn the victory and progress. The 29-year-old went on to claim the gold medal.

Lawrence, lost out in the repechage to be eliminated from the event without a win.

Also without a win was Rupinder Kaur, 33, in the Women’s 50kg division. Originally from India and now representing Australia, Kaur failed to score a point in all three of her loses as she competed in a round-robin style first round.

On Thursday, Connor Evans came closest to winning a medal for the Australian team making the semi-finals before going down in a bronze medal bout.
