Boxing: Official, Manny Pacquiao to face Jeff Horn

Legendary boxer Manny Pacquiao will take on Brisbane based Jeff Horn on either April 22 or April 23.

The fight was officially announced today at a press conference in Brisbane, with the venue to be confirmed. Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane is among the possibilities.

The two will battle for “Pacman” Pacquiao’s WBO world welterweight title.

Pacquaio (59-6-2) is considered to be one of the best fighters of all time having taken home world titles in eight weight divisions since making his professional debut back in 1995. The Filipino born fighter was named the ‘boxer of the decade’ for the 2000’s by the Boxers Writers Association of America, WBC and WBO. In 2015 he lost a decision to undefeated superstar Floyd Mayweather Jr., however has bounced back with two wins against Timothy Bradley Jr and Jesse Vargas since the defeat.

Jeff Horn is a 2012 Olympian who has quickly risen through the ranks since making his professional debut in 2013. Just last month, in front of international promoter Bob Arum, the Australian boxer was able to impress with a sixth round TKO over Ali Funeka to take his record to 16-0 with one technical draw early in his career.

Started Martial Arts training after watching Mr Miyagi and Daniel-son in Karate Kid back in 1987. By the time MMA arrived many years later, I was hooked. Coverage of local MMA was via scarce posts on forums like the Underground and Sherdog. I embarked on covering the sport in 2002 and since then have written thousands of articles for both print and online media, before branching out and starting Fight News Australia in 2010. Outside the site, I dream of riding in an F1 car.
