Just two weeks removed from her submission win over Lisa Ellis in Adelaide, Australia’s Bec Rawlings has her next fight assignment. ‘Rowdy’ will make the trip to Glasgow, Scotland and take on Joanne Calderwood at UFC Fight Night 72 in July. The strawweight addition was announced Saturday by the promotion.
Both former Invicta FC fighters and contestants on The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 20, there’s no love lost between Rawlings (6-4 MMA, 1-1 UFC) and Calderwood (9-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC). The two were originally slated to meet at Invicta FC 4 back in early 2013, however injuries to the card gave Rawlings an opportunity to fight for the title against Carla Esparza, who outpointed the Aussie over five rounds.
Rawlings’s UFC debut didn’t go to plan, losing a unanimous decision to Heather Clark at the TUF 20 Finale show. The 26 year-old bounced back earlier this month against Lisa Ellis at ‘UFC Fight Night: Miocic vs Hunt’, submitting the American veteran with a rear-naked choke in the first round.
Unlike her upcoming opponent, Calderwood, 28, won her promotional debut after outpointing Seo Hee Ham at the TUF Finale. She went on to face UFC newcomer Maryna Moroz last month in Poland, and in what was a surprising outcome for many, the Scottish fighter was submitted in just 90 seconds.
UFC Fight Night 72, the UFC’s debut trip to Scotland, will take place on July 18 at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow.
