Bec Hyatt will face 18 year-old Japanese prospect Mizuki Inoue this Sunday (Australian time) at Invicta Fighting Championship 6, which is set to be headlined by a Featherweight championship match between Marloes “Rumina” Coenen and Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino.
Hyatt (5-2) will go into her third Invicta FC appearance on the back of a first round submission win over the previously undefeated Jasminka Chive at Invicta FC 5 back in early April. After dominating the short lived contest, the 24 year old Aussie forced the tap at the 3:30 mark after locking up a belly-down Arm-Bar. The win was Hyatt’s first in the promotion after dropping a Unanimous Points Decision to Strawweight title holder Carla Esparza in January.
For Mizuki Inoue (5-1), this will be her first North American appearance after spending her entire career to date in the Jewels promotion, where she made her MMA debut at just 16 years of age. Also holding a 5-1 kickboxing record, she became one of the youngest MMA fighters to win a tournament championship after taking out the Jewels 56 kg division, Rough Stone Grand Prix. Inoue is considered by many to be the top Japanese female prospect and holds a notable win over Aussie Atomweight standout, and fellow Invicta FC fighter, Alex Chambers.
The Invicta Fighting Championship 6 main event will see former Strikeforce Featherweight champion Cristiane Justino (11-1) and former Strikeforce Bantamweight champion Marloes Coenen (21-5) face off for the promotions inaugural Featherweight title.
Not only looking to become the promotion’s first Featherweight champion on the night, 32 year-old Coenen will also be fighting to avenge a third round TKO loss, that she suffered to “Cyborg” back in early 2010 in Strikeforce. This fight will be the Dutch superstar’s second Invicta FC outing after unanimously outpointing Romy Ruyssen at Invicta FC 1.
After spending the entire 2012 on the sidelines, Justino made a dominant return to the cage in April at Invicta FC 5, with an impressive first round TKO win over Fiona Muxlow.
Invicta Fighting Championship 6 will take place at the Ameristar Casino Hotel in Kansas City, Missouri, USA, on July 13th (local time). The main card will be broadcast via Pay-Per-View in North America, and at www.ustream.tv/InvictaFC everywhere else. The preliminary portion of the card will be broadcast for free at www.invictafc.com from 9 am, Sunday 14th in Australia.
