Australia’s Adele Fornarino became the first grappler from Australia to claim the ADCC crown on the weekend, winning the under 55 kg women’s division.
Not only that though, the Dominance MMA trained athlete also backed it up claim the prestigious ultimate division against predominantly heavier opponents.
It’s the first time since 2007 that a women has claimed double gold at the ADCC.
In the final of the absolutes, Fornarino defeated Bia Mesquita on penalties after getting past Rafaela Guedes and Brianna Ste-Marie in the previous rounds.

In the under 55 kg division, Fornarino waisted no timing in locking the final win, finishing Bia Basilio with an armlock only 2:40 into the contest, having got past Mayssa Bastos and Jasmine Rocha in the previous rounds.
Josh Saunders from Sydney West Martial Arts had a notable run in the over 99 kg division, narrowly missing out on a bronze medal.
ADCC was held at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas and broadcast live on Flograppling.
