Jack Jenkins overcame a equipment malfunction to earn a TKO finish in the third round of his bout on Dana White’s Contender Series earlier today, Australian time against Emiliano Linares.

The Absolute MMA product looked in control from the onset, earning an early takedown where he stayed strong and hammered down strikes from mount. Linares did manage to escape back to his feet late in the round to give him some hope going into the next round. After a small exchange on their feet, Jenkins again timed the takedown and went to work on the ground again. This time a slicing elbow opened up a cut over the right eye of Linares and blood began to splatter across the canvas.

The corner of Linares were able to halt the bleeding between rounds and the fight had to be stopped momentarily in the third, as Jenkins’ groin guard strapping failed. After a short time out to get it fixed, Jenkins again went to work. Late in the round Linares turned his back to try and find a last resort escape, but the ground-and-pound from Jenkins continued and the referee had seen enough, stopping the contest.

The official time came in at 4:30 of the third round as the former Eternal featherweight title holder moves his record to 10-2. Linares drops to 8-2.

“I noticed early he was over eager with that double jab. Someone gets over eager with that double jab and when they’re up tall, they so easy for that front leg tap. So i took that and wanted to go work. He played real defensive and wasn’t trying to get up so had to get my work done in the guard. I’m happy with that and showed that I have a fully rounded skill set,” Jenkins told Laura Sanko post fight.

Jenkins awaits to see if he was successful for a UFC contract which will be announced at the conclusion.
