Rebounding from a title loss at Aftershock 30, Aaron Blackie got another shot at the title, this time against Xtreme MMA trained Joshua Riley.
The bout went Blackie’s way when an ill-advised takedown attempt from Riley, allowed Blackie, a Judo and BJJ Black Belt, to throw his opponent to the canvas. There the Higgins Submission Fighting, Team Compton and Broz Jiu Jitsu trained fighter locked up the D’Arce submission which put Riley to sleep.
The ending came only 1:23 into the fight and Blackie moves to 5-2 as a pro.
Blackie fought and lost in a title fight at Aftershock 30 however as his opponent missed weight and there were no other takers, the promotion decided that Blackie deserved another chance.
“I know people were saying I didn’t deserve this after my last fight. I’m here, I’m big. I’ll go lightweight, I’ll go featherweight. I do not care. I come, I come to fight,” Blackie said in his post-fight speech.
“I have fought more than anyone the last few months. If Medina wants to fight, then let’s do it and that’s not all, if anyone else is talking – let’s go. Lightweight or featherweight, I’m here,” the former school teacher added.
2016 IMMAF amateur world champion, Brayden Graham lost for the third consecutive time to drop to 1-3 as a pro with a second consecutive loss to Ryan Robertson. Robertson won the first fight via unanimous decision but didn’t need to go to the judges in the rematch, submitting Graham with a D’Arce submission in the third round after dominating the majority of the fight.
With the win, Robertson captures the Aftershock flyweight title and moves to 5-7 as a pro.
Youngster Caitlin McEwen secured a first round submission over Sydney based American Danielle Hayes to capture the Aftershock women’s flyweight title. McEwen failed with a takedown attempt that allowed Hayes to get the top position. This proved to be beneficial for McEwen though as she worked her open guard to setup a triangle choke before transitioning to an armbar to get the tap.
McEwen rebounds from a loss in April to claim the Aftershock women’s flyweight title as the twenty-one year-old moves her record to 4-1.
