2017 is well underway and the muay thai year is in full gear with the return of Rebellion Muay Thai 14 to the St Kilda Town Hall this Saturday night.

Saturday night’s card is headlined by a scintillating matchup between two of Australian muay thai’s top technicians with Alexi Petroulias taking on Rebellion Muay Thai stalwart Roy Wills, along with a stacked undercard of exciting fights.

Having featured many times on Road to Rebellion and Rebellion Muay Thai, Roy Wills will be making his return to the ring in Melbourne with a fight against Alexi Petroulias at a 65kg weight limit. Petroulias is coming off a tough split points decision loss to WA’s George Mann on Rebellion Muay Thai 13, while Wills was able to best NSW fighter Matt Cashmore over five rounds in December to round out his fight year. In a fight that has been looming for many years for Australian muay thai fans, the bout will finally take place on Saturday and is well deserving of its main event status.

In one of the semi-main events of the night and a real highlight fight on the card is the rematch between Victorian Alex Ilijoski and Queenslander Benny Mahoney in a five round battle where Ilijoski hopes to settle the score. Mahoney was able to best Franz Sanchez at Caged Muay Thai 9 in December last year via a points decision, while Ilijoski’s last bout was against Mahoney for the WBC Australian Muay Thai title. In a close fight that went to the judges scorecards with Mahoney winning, both men will be out to prove that they are the better fighter once and for all.

Another standout fight on the night is the bout between local Melbourne fighter John ‘Biscuits’ McKenna and Sydney-based Cameron Webb. McKenna last fought on Warriors Way in November 2016 when he came up against Chris Harrington, losing a very close split decision. Cameron Webb was awarded the 2016 ‘Up and Coming Fighter of the year’ award at the Australian Muay Thai awards back in January and finished the year with split draw against Garry Patterson at the very first Rebellion Muay Thai show in Sydney.

Prior to the start of Rebellion Muay Thai 14, promoter Sy Nadji will be holding his second novice fight show aimed at local fighters with 1-5 fights, with Roots 2: Jammin. The event will be headlined by local fighter Elliot Glenister and Jesse March fighting out of Full Force gym in Sydney.
