A four-man, one-night, lightweight tournament will decide the inaugural Valor lightweight champion on Saturday, June 14 in Launceston, Tasmania, with Steven Maxwell, David Butt, Adam Cook and Chris Drummond all in the mix to take home the top prize.

The tournament final will headline what will be the promotion’s two year anniversary event with a featherweight tilt between Brisbane’s Pat Promrangka and Sydney’s Adam Corbett filling out the co-main event slot. Seated tickets for the event reportedly sold out in just 10 minutes.

Valor 8, which will take place at Launceston’s historic Albert Hall, will be the first Valor event to be streamed live around the world via the internet (excluding Tasmania). The live stream is currently available for purchase at the Fight News Australia LIVE FIGHTS page at a discounted price of $4.99 until June 9, after that it will be priced at $9.99.

With eight pro fights behind him, six of those under the Valor banner, David Butt of the Riot Vale Tudo gym in Capalaba, Queensland, will hold the most experience going into the tournament as the Valor vet looks to bounce back after succumbing to a Rick Alchin rear-naked choke at Eternal MMA 5. In his last appearance inside the Valor cage, Butt scored a 47 second knockout of Jason Maluga at Valor C-Series 5.

Local fighter Steven Maxwell is currently enjoying a two-fight win streak which includes wins over Jerick Panes and fellow tournament hopeful Chris Drummond, who he defeated in his last appearance via a majority points decision back at Valor 7.

Before the loss to Maxwell back in mid February, Hobart’s Chris Drummond was sitting at 2-0 professionally after stopping both Jarryd Holmes and Jerick Panes.

Also fighting out of Tasmania, Adam Cook will be looking to make it two in a row after choking Damon Upton-Greer unconscious at Valor C-Series 5.

Tournament matchups will be decided with a random draw at the weigh-in.
