The Ultimate Fighting Championships promotion will make their long awaited New Zealand debut with New Zealand born James Te Huna set to headline against former title challenger Nate Marquardt on UFC Fight Night 43.

The event will be held at Auckland’s Vector Arena on Saturday, June 28.

UFC officials announced the bout earlier today after initially being announced by The MMA Corner.

After back-to-back losses in the light-heavyweight division, Sydney based Te Huna will drop to the middleweight division to resurrect his UFC career. Te Huna brings a 5-3 UFC record with his losses coming to highly ranked Alexander Gustafsson, Glover Teixeira, and most recently Mauricio Rua at the UFC event held in Brisbane back in December.

A former King of Pancrase champion, 34 year-old Marquardt also will look to get his career back on track after losing all three UFC bouts in 2013, more recently to Hector Lombard back in October. Marquardt will bring a 10-7 UFC record into the bout.

Although all the Australian events were held in the morning to accommodate North American audiences, this event is expected to take place in the evening. Dylan Andrews and Robert Whittaker are also expected to appear on the card.
