Invicta FC 5 Results: Chambers and Hyatt dominant; Muxlow no match for Cyborg

Alex Chambers and Bec Hyatt snatched dominant first round victories at Invicta Fighting Championships 5 today while Fiona Muxlow was no match for a fired up Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos.

Despite a brave effort from Muxlow (6-3) in her Invicta FC debut with “Cyborg” Santos (11-1), ultimately the Townsville local was no match for the former Strikeforce women’s featherweight champ.

From the opening bell the Brazilian controlled the one sided contest with an array of heavy strikes and dominant wrestling, while a desperate Muxlow — who stepped up for this one on less than three weeks notice — searched unsuccessfully for a takedown.

The end came for the Aussie at 3:46 of round one via TKO.

After weeks of pre-fight smack talk between Bec Hyatt and Austria’s Jasminka Cive, it was the Aussie who claimed bragging rights today after comprehensively beating the ISKA Muay Thai champion. Hyatt submitted Cive at 3:30 in the opening round with a belly down arm-bar after gaining mount from a big slam, then forcing Cive to roll with heavy elbows and punches.

This win is Hyatt’s first for Invicta after losing a unanimous points decision to strawweight champion Carla Esparza at Invicta 4. Hyatt moves her pro record to 5-2 while Cive suffers her first loss and drops to 5-1.

It took Sydney’s Alex Chambers just 1:35 to stop the previously undefeated striker Jodie Esquibel and win her debut appearance for the promotion. The VT1 MMA  Academy fighter took early control with a take down before finding her opponent’s back and ending the atomweight tussle with a rear-naked choke.

Chambers improves her record to 4-1 while Esquibel — who defeated Team Quest product Liz McCarthy in her promotional debut at Invicta 4 — slips to 3-1.

Invicta FC 5 was held at the Ameristar Casino Hotel in Kansas City, Missouri.
