Eternal 86 took place at the Southport Sharks Club on Queensland’s Gold Coast on Saturday and featured a welterweight champion fight which was taken out by twenty-four-year-old Lachlan Stitt who took out John Vake in a back-and-forth contest.

Stitt had rocked Vake in the opening round however Vake utilised his wrestling skills to get himself back in the contest in rounds two and three. Round four went the way of Stitt and the title was still anyone for the taking coming into the fifth and final round. The judges were not needed as Stitt latched a rear-naked choke to get the victory, at 1:49 of round five.

Lachlan Stitt moves to 4-1 as a pro, is now scheduled to face challenger Aldin Bates at Eternal 87 in Perth on August 17.

Also on the card, the first-round match-ups of Eternal’s four-man featherweight tournament took place and the always entertaining Dimps Gillies progressed to the final. After a challenging first round where Schmid took his back but was unable to secure the finish, Gillies successfully defended the takedown attempts in the subsequent rounds. He took control staying inside the distance and landing some big shots against a game Schmid who struggled to find an answer. It ultimately became too much as GGillies secured the TKO win in the third-round.

In the other half of the bracket Freestyle MMA trained Sebastian Szalay earned his spot in the tournament final with a unanimous decision win against Australian-based Brazilian Gabriel Schlupp.

The tournament final will also act as the featherweight title fight, last held by Szalay’s teammate Justin Van Heerden.
