A one-night Bantamweight four-man tournament will highlight the Eternal MMA 2 fight card scheduled to occur this Saturday at the Runaway Bay Community Centre on the Gold Coast.
Scheduled to participate in the tournament will be Jacob Mahony (pictured), Luke Morris, Matt George and Shantaram Maharaj who replaced Shannon McClellan in the tournament after he was forced out due to an injury. The pairings for the first round of match-ups will be announced at the weigh-ins with all tournament bouts being contested under three rounds of five minutes each.
Jacob Mahony and Luke Morris have previously met when the two fought to a draw back in April 2012 on the Brace 15 fight card. Morris fights out of the C4 MMA gym in Coffs Harbour and returned in November to submit Craig Lankester with a first-round rear-naked choke submission.
Impact MMA fighter Mahony came unstuck against Julian Rabaud but has bounced back to win consecutive fights against Tim Moore and recently a come-from-behind submission over Reece McLaren to capture the Fightworld Cup Bantamweight Title last month.
5 Rings Dojo fight Shantaram Maharaj is stepping up on late notice to replace his team mate McLaren but will be an outsider to watch as he comes into the tournament with consecutive submission wins over Grego Penaloza and Mitchell Mallet.
Originally out of Alabama, USA but now training out of the Rings Toowoomba Gym, Matthew George comes into the tournament on the back of a pair of losses to Liam Harley and Tim Moore.
The tournament will also be co-headlined by a Eternal Featherweight Title fight between undefeated Judoka Michael Tobin as he takes on David Greaves. Tobin recently moved his training to Shindo New Breed and has four submission wins from as many fights, with all wins coming in the opening round. Integrated MMA fighter Greaves is coming off two consecutive first-round submissions of his own, most recently over Shane Coleman at Roshambo MMA.
While in a Eternal Welterweight Title fight PUMMA fighter Shane Gregory moves down to welterweight for the first time in his career and is scheduled to face Tristan Murphy from the Southside MMA gym
