Coopar Royal is back for a third crack at ONE Championship contract this Friday

Coopar Royal will continue his campaign for a six-figure ONE Championship contract this Friday. 

“Rush” is set to face Japanese prospect Kaito Oda at ONE Friday Fights 60 on April 26. The card goes down at the Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand. 

Royal is 2-0 in his tenure on ONE’s Friday Fights platform, where fighters essentially audition for a full-time contract with the promotion. 

The Rockhampton native has won both of his fights via submission, with the latest a come-from-behind triangle armbar win over Uzbekistan’s Komronbek Ortikov in January. 

After enduring a torrid two rounds under Ortikov’s wrestling-heavy attack, Royal pulled out the stunning finish with less than two minutes left on the clock. The win took his overall professional mark to a perfect 5-0. 

Oda is making his ONE debut and brings a 3-1 record to the fight including two knockouts and a submission. Since making his professional debut in 2022, all of the 26-year-old’s fights have taken place under the Grachan promotion in his native Japan. 

The stakes are high for Royal, who could be rewarded with a contract with another finish, although contracts are given out at the discretion of the ONE brass. 

It appears, at least on paper, that the 24-year-old have a willing dance partner who has only once seen the final bell.
