Coopar Royal will be out for revenge this Friday.
“Rush” will face Komronbek Ortikov at ONE Friday Fights 47 on January 12 in a flyweight MMA contest at the Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, in a bid to avenge teammate Perci Mwambi.
Ortikov took a razor-thin decision over Mwambi in 2023 in a scrappy bout that could’ve gone either way.
The Uzbek proved a sticky customer that night, as his wrestling and positional control proved to be the decisive factor in the fight despite some effective striking from Mwambi in the early going.
Royal, for his part, made a stunning debut under the ONE banner in November, when he dismantled Filipino finisher Ely Fernandez inside two minutes.
Usually noted for his diverse striking game, Royal snatched the neck after hurting Fernandez with a knee to record the first submission win of his perfect 4-0 professional career.
A win against Ortikov would do no harm to the 24-year-old’s chances of scoring a six-figure contract with ONE Championship. Contracts are offered on the ONE Friday Fights platform at the discretion of the promotion’s Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong based on the performance of the fighters.
