While Tim Tszyu might be making all the headlines in Australian boxing, George Kombosos Jr. this weekend has the opportunity to steal that limelight when he meets WBA, WBO, and IBF lightweight titleholder Teofimo Lopez at the famed Madison Square Garden in New York.
The bout has had a series of hurdles and complications which included Lopez testing positive for COVID-19 just days before their originally planned June 20 (AEST) bout in Miami. IBF then ruled that Thriller was in default of its contractual obligations to stage the bout and awarded the fight to Matchroom Boxing.
Lopez brings a 16-0 (12 KO’s) record while Kambosos Jr., is undefeated after 19 bouts, with 10 KO’s to his name. Kambosos won a split decision against Lee Selby in his last outing back in October 2020 while Lopez in the same month, dethroned Vasyl Lomachenko by unanimous decision.

What time will Teofimo Lopez vs George Kambosos Jr take place in Australia?
The bout will take place out at Madison Square Garden’s Hulu Theatre in New York with the main card launching at 12 midday AEDT on Sunday, 28 November 2021 with the main event estimated to begin around 3pm AEDT. As is the case with boxing events, this is just an estimation and depended on the length of the undercard bouts.
The preliminary card will also be broadcast on DAZN starting at 9:45am AEDT.
What about New Zealand and the rest of the world?
This bout is a DAZN exclusive card, with the event broadcast in every country the streaming service is available, except for China. Japan’s broadcast is reportedly non-exclusive.
