Mark Hunt has taken to social media to explain why he’s choosing to represent Australia and not New Zealand at UFC Fight Night 33 in Brisbane.

The revelation comes following the release of the event’s official poster, on which the New Zealand born heavyweight is featured with the Aussie flag.

Hunt pointed to a lack of recognition of his 20 year combat sports career from the New Zealand media as the major motivating factor in his decision.

The 39 year-old’s Australian wife and children, along with his long term residency in the country, also played roles in the decision, as he revealed yesterday via his Facebook page.

The ‘Super Samoan’ is set to meet Antonio Silva in the main event of the December 7 show, which will take place at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre. Hunt will be looking to steer back towards title contender-ship when he faces the Brazilian, following a third round TKO loss to former heavyweight champion Junior Dos Santos at UFC 160.

Let us know below what you think of Hunt’s decision to fly the Australian flag in Brisbane.
