    Brace 22 recap from the Norths Leagues Club in Cammeray, NSW

    Jan Johannes Van Aswegen made short work of Adam Corbett in the Brace 22 main event on Saturday night, in front of a packed Norths Leagues Club in Cammeray, NSW.

    The featherweight clash, which was originally scheduled for the co-main event, was elevated to the main slot following slated headliner Simon Osborne’s late withdrawal from his light heavyweight bout with Randall Rayment (pictured). 

    Rayment went on to stop local heavyweight boxer Ben Wrotniak in the co-headliner fight. 

    Osborne later stated on social media that he was hospitalized due to dehydration and tonsillitis. 

    Jan Johannes Van Aswegen vs Adam Corbett

    Corbett lands a leg kick to open the fight before the two fighters clinch. Van Aswegen grabs a guillotine choke, which Corbett tries to counter by slamming the Beston Gracie product to the canvas. Upon doing so however, Van Aswegen locks up a tight looking triangle choke and forces the tap soon after.

    Randall Rayment vs Ben Wrotniak 

    After a brief feeling out period which sees both men exchange punches, Rayment secures a double leg takedown and drops Wrotniak to the floor, landing straight into side control. Soon after, Wrotniak rolls and Rayment seizes the opportunity and claims his back. With both hooks in, Rayment locks up a rear-naked choke and Wrotniak is forced to tap.

    Karl Robertson vs Laauli Faatamala

    Wimp to Warrior winner Karl Robertson weathered a fired up Laauli Faatamala to win his debut with a come from behind submission.

    It was all Faatamala in the first round, who unleashes on Robertson from the get go. Robertson is forced to cover up desperately as the crowd favorite fires off an array of punches to begin the middleweight bout. In search of a better tactic, Robertson drives Faatamala back as he looks for a takedown. Faatamala locks up a standing guillotine choke before Robertson breaks free and tries once more to take the fight to the canvas. However, Faatamala sprawls well then takes Robertson’s back, where he lands a short right hand, forcing Robertson to roll. It’s not long before both men are standing once more. Faatamala re-engages with a superman punch. Robertson again looks for the takedown and Faatamala locks up another standing guillotine, but this time drops as he looks to finish the choke from full guard. Robertson lands into side control however, and the round comes to end with Robertson landing short shots. 10-9 Faatamala.

    Not content with standing with Faatamala, Robertson drives in for the takedown as the second round commences. Faatamala lands with a couple of short head shots before pulling guard. Robertson works well from the top position and soon winds up in full mount where he unloads on Faatamala, forcing him to roll. Robertson locks up a rear-naked choke and gets the tap.

    Joseph Logronio vs Jeshua McPhail 

    Sinosic / Perosh trained Jeshua McPhail and Joseph Logronio from the Temple Dogz gym met in what turned out to be a short, but fast paced featherweight clash.

    A touch of gloves begins the bout. A swing and a miss from Logronio as they engage before McPhail scores a takedown and gains side control. McPhail gains mount not long after as Logronio then rolls. McPhail sinks in a rear-naked choke, and with both hooks in, forces Logronio to tap.

    Geo Ellahi vs Dean Madison 

    In what could have easily been the top contender for fight of the night, Geo Ellahi and Dean Madison fought an entertaining back and forth battle in what was also the sole matchup to go the distance on the night.

    Madison starts the scrap strong by landing a left hook which drops Ellahi. Madison follows Ellahi to the canvas where he looks to finish the contest, however Ellahi scrambles well, and winds up in top position. Soon both men return to their feet and Madison re-engages by driving Ellahi to the floor with a takedown then moves into half guard. He gains full mount shortly after but again Ellahi scrambles well and in a good show of strength, attains top position. As the round draws to a close, Madison regains his feet but eats a couple of clean punches in the process. 10-9 Madison.

    The second chapter begins with Madison opening up with a punch combination which Ellahi blocks. Ellahi scores a single leg takedown but Madison rolls and ends up on top before working to half guard. Ellahi eventually uses his feet to push off the cage and rolls, however Madison uses the momentum and regains the top position. The fighters are soon standing once again. Madison’s really pushing the pace now and starts to land frequently with punches. Ellahi drives in for a takedown however it’s Madison who winds up on top. Forcing Ellahi to roll with short strikes, Madison searches for a rear-naked choke however can’t find it, and the round closes out with Madison landing short right hands. 10-9 Madison.

    Madsion looks the fresher of the two fighters as the third round commences. Ellahi comes forward swinging wildly and eats a punch combination in the process. Breathing heavily now, Ellahi eats a solid right hand and is forced to cover up as Madison unloads with strikes. Ellahi secures a takedown soon after however and moves into side control. A great show of strength returns Madison to his feet where he lands a solid body shot. Madison continues to outbox Ellahi, who attempts a takedown. Madison winds up on top before the round comes to an end. 10-9 Madison.

    Jared Schouten vs Matthew Moore 

    Jared Schouten received the loudest reception of all the fighters from the capacity crowd on Saturday night, however, it took Wimp to Warrior season 1 contestant Mathew Moore just 7 seconds and 1 right hand to silence the Lange’s MMA faithfull.  

    Schouten wastes no time as the first frame begins, engaging Moore with a flying knee which doesn’t connect. Moore lands with one clean right hand which sends Schouten crashing to the canvas. With Schouten looking up in confusion, Moore finishes the fight with another right, as the referee scrambles to wave the bout off.

    Danny Hopper vs Sam Atkinson 

    Superior striking and Judo trips took Danny Hopper to a second round stoppage win over a game Sam Atkinson in the sole lightweight tussle of the evening. 

    The action begins with Atkinson driving Hopper back into the fence. Hopper trips Atkinson to the canvas and winds up in mount. Atkinson rolls and Hopper quickly takes his back. After a failed rear-naked choke attempt by Hopper, Atkinson scrambles and the two fighters are standing once more. Atkinson again tries for a single leg but Hopper breaks free. Both men engage now. Hopper lands a knee as Atkinson drives in for a takedown. Hopper scores another nice trip right on the ten second warning. The round comes to an end with Hopper on top. 10-9 Hopper.

    Hopper lands a clean right hand as the second frame gets underway. Atkinson re-engages by tying him up. The fighters break and Hopper fires off a head kick which Atkinson blocks. Hopper looking superior in the standup department now. Atkinson again searches for a takedown, forcing Hopper back into the cage. Hopper scores another impressive trip and winds up in full mount. Atkinson rolls and Hopper locks in a rear-naked choke and gets the tap.

    Aiden Meaney vs Adam Ellanor 

    An entertaining night of finishes at Brace 22 kicked off with a short lived welterweight clash between Aiden Meaney and Adam Ellanor. Ellanor was dropped early by a crisp right hand from Meaney, who finished the fight with rapid hammerfists as Ellanor clung to his leg.
