After missing out on an opportunity to compete on Dana White’s Contender Series last year, Stephen Erceg has been officially awarded a UFC contract following his win on the weekend.
His management, Rival Sports Management and promotion Eternal MMA confirmed the news earlier today.
Erceg said in the announcement, “It’s a dream come true to be signed to the UFC. It’s taken a lot of sacrifice and dedication to get here. This is just the first step along the way to reaching that UFC gold.”
UFC brass took the opportunity to attend Eternal MMA in Perth on Saturday and were impressed by Erceg to give him a multi-fight contract immediately post-fight.
Erceg headlined Eternal 73 where he submitted his Japanese opponent Soichiro Hirai in the first round. The win took Erceg’s undefeated streak to eight and he moved his record to 9-1.
The 27-year-old was confirmed as a contestant on the last season of Dana White’s Contender Series but visa issues meant that he never got to compete.
