New Zealander Ev Ting was quickly submitted in the opening frame of his match against Japanese veteran & grappling sensation Shinya Aoki at ONE Championship – Kingdom of Heroes on Saturday night

As soon as the bout began, Ting looked to engage with his striking, but Aoki wanted no part of it and quickly shot in for a successful takedown. In top position, Aoki proceeded to attack aggressively and caught an arm-triangle choke which he held onto until Ting lost consciousness.

The match was put to an official halt only 57-seconds into the contest.

“I did what I could, and this is [what] I got. This is who I am,” the triumphant 35-year-old told the crowd post-fight.

With the win, Aoki adds to a 42-8-0 professional record as he sets himself for a title challenge in front of a home-crowd in Japan next March. With the title recently vacated by Martin Nguyen, former champion Eduard “Landslide” Folayang and Amir Khan will meet next month to determine the next champion.

Ting falls to 16-5 following the loss.

Sor Rungvisai was able to outpoint Diaz from start to finish thus securing the unanimous decision victory and retaining his WBC super flyweight title.
