    Mauled.

That’s one way to describe Alex Chambers’ fight against Livia Renata Souza this morning at UFC Sau Paulo in Brazil.

At 39-years-old, the odds were always heavily stacked against Chambers as she took on the former Invicta FC Strawweight Champion in her hometown who was also 12 years her junior.

From the outset, it was clear the fight was a large mismatch.

Souza came right out of the gate extremely aggressive throwing wild overhand rights at Chambers forcing the Aussie to backtrack towards the fence. With Chambers covering up on the cage, Souza grabbed a leg and scored a single-leg takedown before quickly moving into full mount. Souza then wrapped her arm around the neck of Chambers forcing her to tap to a mounted guillotine at 3.38 of the first round.

Chambers, who turned pro in 2010 has struggled in recent times after having reconstructive knee surgery which put her on the sidelines for two years. The loss is Chambers’ 3rd in a row after suffering losses to Paige VanZant and Nadia Kassem and brings her professional record to 5-5.

Souza’s professional record improved to 12-1 with the win and will be a welcome addition the flourishing UFC strawweight roster.
