Three Australian boxers progressed to the semi-final stages on day 7 of the 2018 Commonwealth Games taking place on the Gold Coast, however it wasn’t good news for Kaye Scott who failed to progress to final.

Scott lost to Rosie Eccles by judges decision 4-1 in what was a gritty affair and was outmatched by her younger opponent. It was a disappointing result for Scott who had previously claimed silver at the World Championships. According to a report with AAP, Scott remains keen to continue in the sport in an attempt to qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Anja Stridsman started her campaign in the under 60kg Women’s division and put on an impressive performance to win a decision over a former Commonwealth Games silver medalist in India’s Sarita Devi. Stridsman, who suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament only five months ago, now moves on to the medal rounds where she will meet Troy Garton from New Zealand in the semi-finals on Friday.

At only 20-years-old, Harry Garside has been one of the stand-out performers for the Australian team as he too progressed to the semi-finals in the Men’s 60kg division. The Victorian based youngster won a decision over Scottish youngster, Nathaniel Collins. Garside competes for the fourth time in the competition on Friday when he faces 19-year-old Michael McDonagh from Wales.

In the Men’s 81kg competition, Clay Waterman edged a decision over Mbachi Kaonga to progress to the medal rounds. The Zambian opponent was less than pleased with the result and in an outburst claimed home ground advantage gave Waterman the win. Waterman, 22, will be back in action on Friday against leading European youth Sammy Lee.

No boxing on Thursday with seven Australian boxers participating in a jam packed semi-final day on Friday. Winners will on to compete for Gold on Saturday.
