    Commonwealth Games 2018: Caitlin Parker, Clay Waterman & Harry Garside all progress

    Day five of boxing competition at the 2018 Commonwealth Games ended this evening and it was another successful day for Team Australia who had three boxers progress to the next round of competition.

    The event is taking place at the Oxenford Studios on the Gold Coast.

    Caitlin Parker, a former Tae Kwon Do black-belt was in the second bout of the day and she moved a step closer to a gold medal with a win over former European champion Natasha Gale in the women’s 75kg division. All give judges awarded Parker with the win and the Western Australian moves on to the semi-finals on Friday where she meets Nigerian boxer Millicent Agboegbulem.

    Queensland boxer Clay Waterman was victorious in his 81kg Round of 16 bout against Scotland’s Sean Lazzerini. Waterman won the opening two rounds before his opponent made a late charge to take the last round. Four of the five judges scored the bout in favour of Waterman, a former junior amateur world champion. Waterman has a day off tomorrow before returning to the ring on Wednesday where faces Zambia’s Mbachi Kaonga.

    Lastly, in the evening session, Harry Garside won his second bout of the Games in the under 60kg division. The 20-year-ld from Victorian dominated en-route to a unanimous decision victory over Tryagain Ndvelelo. Garside’s next bout, in the quarter-final stage of the competition, will be against Nathaniel Collins from Scotland.
