After more than three years on the MMA sidelines, arguable Australia’s biggest and most recognisable mixed martial arts promotion ever, Cage Fighting Championship (CFC) is back.

    Well, sort of.

With two shows slated before year’s end, a revamped CFC returns in 2015, under the new label ‘Superfight’. The new-look promotion will debut on Friday August 21 with a pro/am show at the Croatian Club in Punchbowl, south-western Sydney. Full details regarding the second 2015 Superfight offering are yet to be finalised, but that event is also expected to take place in Sydney.

The promotion, which according to a Superfight representative, consists of the same crew that was behind CFC and is currently in the process of matchmaking for the August event. There are no further details regarding the lineup to note at this point in time.

Between 2007 and 2012, CFC hosted 21 events across New South Wales and Queensland, and showcased some of the most successful and well known fighters the country has produced. Anthony Perosh, Hector Lombard, Robert Whittaker, James Te Huna, Kyle Noke and Soa Palelei are among current UFC-signed fighters that fought for the promotion. The list goes on — Dylan Andrews, Gustavo Falciroli and Bernardo Magalhaes are all also former CFC products.

The final offering from CFC took place back in May 2012 at Sydney Olympic Park and featured a welterweight title fight between Jesse Juarez and Robert Whittaker in the main event. Juarez was awarded a unanimous decision after five rounds. In the co-main event, Soa Palelei swarmed Bob Sapp with punches to take a 12 second TKO. Also on the card, veteran UFC heavyweight Jeff Monson outpointed Jim Yorke.
