Following an impressive international debut in Guam just last weekend, fast rising Aussie Alex Volkanovski returns to action this Saturday night at Wollongong Wars 2. ‘The Hulk’ is set to take on recently crowned Eternal MMA lightweight champion David Butt in the show’s main event, with the clash to be contested at welterweight.

Wollongong Wars 2 will take place at Anita’s Theatre in Thirroul, NSW. The co-main event will see Australian based Canadian Kevin Manderson take on New Zealand’s Byron Cowell. Cowell replaces Manderson’s origional opponent, former CFC lightweight champion Rob Hill.

With this fight just one week removed from PXC 45, where he outpointed local favorite Kyle Reyes, It’s a quick turnaround to say the least for Volkanovski, as the 25 year-old returns home searching for his sixth win on the trot, and his fifth for 2014. The Roshambo lightweight champion also holds 2014 victories over Jai Bradney, Rodolfo Marques and Greg Atzori.

The man out to spoil his homecoming, Riot Vale Tudo trained Butt enters enemy territory riding a two-fight win streak following back-to-back first round stoppages. After stopping Eddie Trewin with punches at Carnage in the Cage 3, Butt went on to snatch the Eternal MMA lightweight title with a first round arm-bar submission win over Jason Preece late last month.

Wollongong Wars 2 will also feature a heavyweight tilt between Brendan Sosoli and Simon Osborne. Meanwhile, the in-form Craig Martin will be out to avenge a 2012 loss to Leo Diaz when the two fighters rematch. Also slated for the show, Filipo Tago steps up on short notice to face Benjamin Sosoli.

    Main Card:

    • Alex Volkanovski vs David Butt
    • Kevin Manderson vs Byron Cowell
    • Brendon Sosoli vs Simon Osborne
    • Craig Martin vs Leo Diaz
    • Benjamin Sosoli vs Filipo Tago

    * While the official undercard has not been released by the promotion, the following fighters are advertised to be fighting.

Shane Coleman , Kane Jones, Dan Bennett, Josh Tummers, Tri Tran, Alex Luckman, Thomas Ngarimu Grover, Ryan Della Vedova , Shonny Landmark, Adam Rehayem, Brad McIntyre, James Najim, James Vandarakis.
