Perth youngster Jack Della made a successful international debut, submitting opponent James Duckett on Cage Warriors 88.
The event took place at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, England on Saturday night (Sunday morning AEST).
Duckett started the more aggressive setting the pace on the outside with strikes. A failed takedown attempt from Della allowed Duckett to reverse and put the Australian on the canvas. The English based fighter immediately looked to pass to side-control however Della nicely reversed to a kimura attempt that gave him top position. It was all Della for the remainder of the round as he landed hard elbows and came close to finishing his opponent with a rear-naked choke.
Two big hooks started the second round in Della’s favour however his opponent successfully defended both early takedown attempts. Punches again found their mark from Della as he pressed forward. Duckett failed with a tired looking takedown attempt which forced him to give up his back and allowed Della to transition to mount. There he unloaded with solid elbows forcing Duckett to turn. Della quickly sunk the arm under the neck, this forcing Duckett to submit.
The tap 3:44 into round two as the 21-year-old Australian secures his fourth straight win to take his professional record to 4-2. Della is currently the Reign and Eternal MMA welterweight title holder.
Duckett, a former IMMAF amateur world championship finalist, drops to 3-2.
In the main event of the night, Chris Fishgold took his record to an impressive 17-1-1 as he submitted Alexander Jacobsen in the first-round.
