Jacob Mahony subs George & Maharaj to take Eternal Bantamweight Tournament

User Rating:  / 0

Jacob Mahony MMA FighterImpact MMA fighter Jacob Mahony submitted two opponents in one-night to take out the Eternal MMA Bantamweight four-man tournament last night at Eternal MMA 2.

The event was held at the Runaway Bay Community Centre on Queensland's Gold Coast and was also headlined by a pair of title bouts (Story here).

The tournament started off with a Jacob Mahony taking on Matthew George from Toowoomba, Queensland. Mahony quickly found his mark with a stiff jab before George took the fight to the ground. Mahony escaped to his feet only for Mahony to again get another takedown. As George controlled the fight form here, Mahony stayed calm and composed and got the reversal. He quickly took the back of George and submitted him with rear-naked choke only 2:51 into the bout. A good first-round win for Mahony who progressed to the final all fresh.

It wasn't as easy sailing in the other semi-final as up-and-coming fighter Shantaram Maharaj from 5 Rings Dojo came up against Luke Morris from C4 MMA who was looking at getting a rematch against Mahony after the two fought to a draw last year.

Australian Fighting Championship 5 Recap: Daniel Hooker defeats Rusty McBride to retain Lightweight Title

User Rating:  / 0

Daniel Hooker - AFC 5Daniel Hooker (pictured) made it two from two against Rusty McBride in the AFC 5 main event on Friday night (May 10) and this time the win was far from controversial. The Kiwi needed just 1:35 to Submit the local favorite and defend the Lightweight Title.

On the front foot from the outset, Hooker looked to set the pace early with his Boxing. Moving backward and searching for angles, McBride did well to match his taller opponent's striking, however got dropped by a solid right hook with 4:27 left in the round. Hooker wasted no time claiming McBride's back, and after a lengthy period searching for a Rear-Naked Choke, finally got the win. With this victory, Hooker remains undefeated in the promotion after three appearances and also extends his unbeaten run to four.

The first stage of the promotion's Welterweight Title tournament wrapped up on Friday night with Corey Nelson, Dean Purdon and Jake Mathews progressing through to the next round after claiming victories. Walber De Barros vs Zein Saliba was reportedly scraped due to Saliba missing weight.

Corey Nelson continued his impressive run in 2013, dominating the previously unbeaten Alex Volkanovski in the co-main event. After snapping off a kick to the mid section followed by a pair of head kicks, the noticeable larger of the two NSW fighters finished the fight with an uppercut early in the third.

AFC 5 BannerDaniel Hooker and Rusty McBride are set to rematch for the Lightweight Title as Australian Fighting Championship 5 kicks off this Friday night at the Melbourne Pavilion.

McBride will be looking to even the score with the Kiwi after suffering a disappointing TKO loss when the two first vied for the title back in mid 2012 at AFC 3. On that night, the doctor called a halt to the bout after the local favorite sustained a bad cut.

Jacob Mahony MMAA one-night Bantamweight four-man tournament will highlight the Eternal MMA 2 fight card scheduled to occur this Saturday at the Runaway Bay Community Centre on the Gold Coast.

Jacob Mahony and Luke Morris have previously met when the two fought to a draw back in April 2012 on the Brace 15 fight card. Morris fights out of the C4 MMA gym in Coffs Harbour and returned in November to submit Craig Lankester with a first-round rear-naked choke submission.

Impact MMA fighter Mahony came unstuck against Julian Rabaud but has bounced back to win consecutive fights against Tim Moore and recently a come-from-behind submission over Reece McLaren to capture the Fightworld Cup Bantamweight Title last month.
