New Zealand’s Dan Hooker wracked up win number five in the UFC with a third-round submission win over Marc Diakese earlier today.
The bout started slowly as the two were reduced to singular strikes. Known for his flashy flashy style, Diakiese did attempt to catch the 27-year-old Kiwi with spinning kicks however Hooker had done his homework and stayed out of range.
After eating some leg-kicks early, Hooker secured a takedown in the second-round. He transitioned to back-control and immediately looked to sneak the arm around his opponent’s neck but Diakiese weathered the storm and was able to see out the round.
That wasn’t the same in the third and final round as an ill-advised takedown attempt from Diakiese allowed Hooker to lock in a tight guillotine to secure the tap only 42-seconds into the round.
The win moves Hooker’s record to 15-7 (UFC 5-3) and Hooker has already set his eyes at UFC Perth in February.
